I doubt it will cost thousands of dollars to take your dog to the vet. They’re not going to perform any treatment that you can’t afford because they want their money. You should definitely have your dog seen by a doctor before it dies.
All I can say is, you NEED to take your dog to the vet. My vet will work it out with me to where I can make payments after the visit if I do not have enough money at the time…I am sure they can do that with you. You need to get that dog looked at and put on doggie meds…not people meds…you can end up killing your dog if you do not know what you are doing…The dog could have many things wrong with it…Like, a disease, an illness, worms, parasites….It could be anything…And the only way for you to find out exactly what is wrong is to take him to the vet. They should be able to work it out where you make payments…that way it is easier on you.
Bottom line is, your dog needs a vet. Stop giving him people meds, you can kill a dog like that. Arrange for payments with a vet, put it on a credit card, whatever but the dog needs a vet.
You should have a regular vet…If you do it shouldn’t cost but 60 dollars tops to just take him for a check up there. You do not have to take the meds if it is not life threatening and its too expensive but at least you will then know what the real problem is. You may be giving him/her something that could in fact make things worse. I really think you should at least have a check up. The late night animal hospitals are where you do not want to take him b/c they are hella expensive.
I am having some trouble reading your question, sorry.
Why is he getting anti spasmodic medication and amoxycillin? Who prescribed them?
I can’t comment on the anti spasmodic tablets, as you didn’t say which ones.
Amoxycillin, although approved for use in dogs, could be the cause of the diarrhoea. IF it WASN”T prescribed by a vet, stop it immediately.
Many antibiotics and sulfas disrupt the normal helpful bacterial flora in the intestine as well as killing pathogenic (dangerous) bacteria. When the normal bacterial flora of the intestine is destroyed diarrhea may result. This problem can occur with injected antibiotics as well as oral medicines. Giving the pet YOGURT or bacterial gel pastes, decreasing the antibiotic dose, or changing to a different antibiotic all help.
The rash could also be directly linked to the amoxycillin, which is penicillin. The most dangerous thing for your dog now is DEHYDRATION.
Sudden diarrhoea is most serious in very young, very old and very small pets. They can quickly become severely dehydrated. Dehydration in small pets and frail elderly animals can be fatal because their surface area is large in proportion to their body weight. As dehydration progresses these pets have trouble maintaining their body temperature and may lapse into coma. He really should be seen by a vet.
PARVOVIRUS infection of dogs causes severe foul-smelling diarrhea. Mature dogs recover after a period of diarrhea but the disease is often fatal in young unvaccinated pups. Parvovirus attacks the lining of the small intestine causing bloody DIARRHOEA and VOMITING. Dogs are severely depressed, dehydrated and in much pain. These pets die from fluid loss so most efforts aim at replacing these fluids. Parvo-infected dogs cannot keep oral fluids and medicines down so medication is usually given through fluids or injection.
Spoiled food is often contaminated with toxins and bacteria that cause pets to have diarrhoea and vomit. FOOD POISONING usually resolves itself after the contaminated material is purged from the body.
Feeding poorly cooked meat products and chicken to dogs can pass bacteria like Salmonella and Campylobacter onto pets and humans, also resulting in diarrhoea and vomiting.
Also there is something called ‘Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis Of Dogs.’
Toy breeds of dogs are susceptible to bloody diarrhoea, the cause of which remains unknown. Many of these cases are due to stress. All these cases respond well to food deprivation for 24 hours (give water) and then gradually increasing amounts of bland diet fed. Here, your rice diet mixed with mince is good, however it doesn’t explain the vomiting so other causes may be more plausible.
I also hope you are not solely feeding your chihuahua rice, as dogs cannot survive on a diet without protein. Try giving your dog pure meat such as mince for a couple of days, or at least mixed with rice or pasta with at least 3/4 meat. Even some cat biscuits mixed in would be good, as they are higher in protein and fat than dog biscuits. Due to this they are not really the best option long term, though. The protein will help firm up his stools.
What do you mean by 1/2 diaper, are you saying your dog wears a nappy? This in itself would be making the situation much worse. The diarrhoea would burn his behind, then allow for bacteria to breed. Remove the nappy. Arrange for a cat litter tray filled with litter or sand. He might use that instead.
But you really need to see a vet for proper diagnosis and to save your dog’s life.
take him to the vet. otherwise its you doing animal abuse.it doesn’t matter how much it costs. it matters how much you love him. what if it is lethal?take him to the vet.
