By Val Cavalheri 1801 Robert Fulton Drive Suite 540 Reston, VA 20191 703.787.9866 www.wellmedica.com It’s hard to talk about this medispa without talking about its founder, and this issue’s Cover Mom—Dr. Dima Ali. First there is the plush atmosphere and the professional and knowledgeable staff that greet you when you arrive for your appointment. Then there are the pictures of celebrities. As you look around you notice that this spa has been featured in Cosmetic Surgery Times, Vogue, DaySpa Magazine, In Style Magazine, Health and Beauty, and has been named by The Washingtonian and The Washington Post as one of the “Top Medical Spas in the USA.” OK, you think—show me what you got. Lety Soto, Dr. Dima’s assistant, started by using, what I now consider, the dreaded see-all machine–VISIA®. VISIA is a diagnostic tool that photographs and analyzes various aspects of the face, including pore size, spots, wrinkles and bacteria. It’s totally painless—until you get the results, that is, and see how much damage all those wonderful years on the beach have caused. She then ran a device that looks like a paddle covered with fine fastened abrasive particles on my face. The procedure, called Vibraderm is used as an alternative to microdermabrasion and is one of the latest solutionsavailable to improve the appearance of skin, stimulating natural collagen production and exfoliation. Felt good. Throughout it all, Lety spoke about the various options available in this spa dedicated to Aesthetics and Anti Aging. Besides the usual cosmetic injectables and laser treatments, the spa also offers weight loss and cellulite removal, bio-identical hormone replacement, and mesotherapy (injecting a ‘fat burning’ formula into problem areas–saddlebags, love handles, and abdomen. The fat then exits the body via the urine.) In fact, Dr. Dima is currently one of only 500 American doctors who offer this treatment. If that wasn’t enough, inspired by her personal sensitivity to harsh, over the counter and prescription strength topical treatments, Dr. Dima, (who trained under Drs. Zein Obagi and Pierre Fournier) created her own skin care and cosmetics line–Cosminology. By a lot of luck and design, Cosminology became the exclusive cosmetic sponsor of the 2008 Oscars and has been featured on dozens of TV shows. After trying some of it, I can see what all of the fuss is about. There is much to learn from Dr. Dima and her staff, all of who are ready and willing to teach it to you.

Dima Ali, M.D. is an internationally recognized Aesthetic and Anti-Aging Medicine expert. Her areas of expertise include aesthetic laser surgery, minimally invasive face lifts, lipofilling, botox, soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, mesotherapy/lipo-dissolve and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Ali received her undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. After receiving her Doctorate of Medicine and completing a general residency training at The George Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Ali devoted all of her postgraduate work on her passion of Cosmetic Dermatology, Cutaneous Laser Surgery, Anti-Aging Medicine and cosmetic formulations. ?Dr. Dima,? as her patients and colleagues affectionately call her, founded one of the East Coasts first medical spas, WellMedica Aesthetic & Anti-Aging Medicine in Reston, VA.

Dr. Dima?s Cosminology (clinical skincare & clinical mineral make up) was created by Dr. Dima Ali, and inspired by her personal sensitivity to harsh, over the counter and prescription strength topical treatments. As a long-time acne sufferer with a propensity for hyperpigmentation, Dr. Dima began to combine varying strengths of potent, rejuvenating ingredients with natural, anti-inflammatory botanical extracts and essential oils to treat her own skin conditions and those of her patients.
