What’s the best anti-personal sniper rifle?
So like, assuming we go into some post-apocolyptic age where you fend for your own territory and hunt your own food… what would be the best sniping rifle? Maybe something to double up as a food hunting rifle too. I was thinking something along the lines of a Remington 700? PSS version?
50 cal sniper rifle is a bit much dont ya think? I mean, I still want to remain humane… shoot him with one of those and he’ll be in a hundred different pieces. Plus, once you shoot it, everyones going to know where you are. Those things are loud as hell.
Also, wouldn’t a semi-auto rifle be a better choice? I haven’t seen anyone recommend one of those.
Yeah, I realized I had spelled *personnel wrong about 10 seconds after I had posted. But thanks for pointing it out. Haha.

50 caliber sniper rifle
chuck norris
savage .243 for food and anti-personal or if you want to go anti personal go 9mm rifle not pistol round
Just go for broke and getcha one of those 50 caliber Barrett rifles. You might need the range. Perhaps you can loot a lesser rifle during the mayhem for your other needs.
Barrett Model 82A1/M107.

This would be my choice.
that is a little creepy. i think you need to re-evaluate your life. go get some happy pills please.

Anti-personal? If I read the English language correctly that means you want to kill yourself. For that, any rifle will do.
If you were attempting to find an Anti-Personnel rifle, then yes, your Remington would work fine.
The current anti-personnel rifle is the bolt action M24-A2
I believe your choice of the Remington 700 is a good one.
the PSS has a float barrel, so your second shot accuracy is much better.. For the price different, in the SHTF condition to which you speak anything is better then nothing.
I shoot a 30.06 in a single shot H&R. either the 308 or 30.06 can still reach out and touch somethiing.
military version of the Remington 700 in 308 caliber.
Those people posting the Barrett failed to read your post.
There is a movement afoot to move toward a larger bore, I don’t recall the exact caliber but the reach out and touch distance is 2000 yards versus 1000 yards.
a 50 cal sniper rifle
Anti-Sniper Snipers use a .270 win. The reason is you don’t want over-penetration. Most police snipers use the .270.
Okay, let’s play your “post-apocalyptic age” scenario. Let me answer your question with a question: Would you want to be the sniper with a rifle chambered in .308 Winchester or the like with a maximum effective range of say 900 meters and see a sniper in your scope at 1,000 meters away, scoping you with a rifle chambered in .300 Win Mag with a maximum effective range of 1,100 meters? Things that make you go Hummmmm!
Why exactly are you so hot on getting an “anti-personal” rifle? Does a regular rifle not kill as efficiently as you want?
Do you have a steel reinforced concrete home?
Steel shudders for the windows?
Non-perishable food supply?
Fuel supply?
And last but not least, a plan. You cannot take on the world by yourself. Your going to need others to help defend.
Once you have got those taken care of, then worry about your firearm choice and a large stockpile of ammo and spare parts.
I want either a Soviet Dragunov SVD in 7.62X54r or something bolt action in in a good ole 30-06!
I favor the AR15 in .223
My AR15 is set up real nice. Long barrel, flat top upper receiver and a long range bullet drop compensator scope 6-18×40. an a bi-pod.
I use it to sniper Prairie dogs and coyotes.
Chey-Tac, which, for $13,000, comes with its’ own ballistic computer, and almost shoots itself. Accuracy is good as far as the eye can see, even with binoculars. . . .
If you want a semi-auto, for the same price, there soon will be the Accuracy Solutions AS-50, in .50BMG, which is just about as accurate as the Chey-Tac rifles., and, in comparison tests, has out-shot the veteran Barrett M-82′s
AR 15. It would be cheap to stockpile ammo and to practice with. Also very deadly. Ive heard the those unmarked black choppers are especially vulnerable to a burst of fire from the old AR 15.
Accuracy International AW in .308 Win. or AWSM in .338 Lapua if you want longer range.
Personally, I don’t think any rifle is going to be realistic in your scenario. Knowing your neighbors and getting along with them will do alot more good.
If you are looking for something that has long range and is very accurate, as well as being able to take down most living things you might want to consider something like a Model 1891/30 Mosin Nagant or one of the other Soviet Block style weapons such as a Dragunov or varient of one. A Mosin Nagant using a standard 180gr soft nose bullet in 7.62×54 Rimmed has an effective range of between 800-1000 meters. I’ve taken mine to the range and with just the stock wwII iron sights plinked Roma tomatos off of a backstop at 100 meters. With the cost of a Mosin it’s also a real bargain, since they start at around $69 in alot of places, and can be ordered as a Curio and Relic.
Ammo is usually cheap as well with surplus bulk ammo being easy to find and dirt cheap! If you wanted a Semi auto you can get a Romak III Dragunov clone for around $700 with a scope and a 5 to 10 rd magazine that shoots the same 7.62x54R ammo as the Mosin as well as having some specific types of ammo that would be more for specialized shooting.
If you decide to check out a Romak III or Dragunov SVD or one of it’s variants, you need to be aware that you do not want to use Surplus 7.62x54R ammo in it unless its specifically made for the Druganov though. It’s usually really corrosive and would foul up a Semi Auto something fierce.
I was a supervisor of a Support (SWAT) Squad for a police dept. in the midwest. We used the Remington 700 with a bull barrel mounted with a 9 power scope in 223 calibre. There were two snipers in each squad armed with this rifle. We had another Remington 700 in 308 calibre for shooting through glass. Either one of theses weapons would work for shooting food or foes.
LMAO-Spits drink all over computer* Wujoo is not only correct, he makes total sense. In these “bad times to come” it would be best just to set up the shot and take it on yourself.
As for myself, I plan to own the first post-apocolyptic haberdashery. I will look forward to seeing all you fine gentleman there
its easy to see that most 50 cal fans have never been in the infantry and had to carry every thing they owned on their back miles a day all day.there were a lot of good answers ,but your biggest problem in your scenario is logistics.how much ammo do you have on hand, and where can you get more when you run low. i would choose a popular caliber that you could pick up or trade for.if you are going to be stock piling i would go for the cheapest ammo i could find like the 7.62×39,7.62×54 or 8mm mauser
.270 OR A .308
Most police snipers use a .308 or .300 Winchester, and the occasional .270.
